This five-year provisional visa requires a formal nomination from a State or Territory government and generally mandates that the applicant be under 55 years of age.
1. Business Innovation Stream (188A) Designed for established business owners, the Business Innovation Stream focuses on operational excellence and proven success. To satisfy the primary criteria, applicants must demonstrate total net business and personal assets of at least AUD 1.25 million and have maintained an annual business turnover of at least AUD 750,000 for two of the last four fiscal years. Beyond these capital thresholds, success hinges on a points-test score of at least 65 and a compelling narrative of active day-to-day management in a qualifying Australian business.
2. Investor Stream (188B) The Investor Stream targets sophisticated investors who are prepared to commit significant capital to Australia’s financial markets. This stream requires a designated investment of AUD 2.5 million into complying investment frameworks, including venture capital and emerging companies. Unlike operational business streams, the focus here is on your historical investment track record and the lawful source of your AUD 2.5 million in net assets. Maintaining this investment for the duration of the provisional visa is a strict prerequisite for future permanent residency.
